Xing Chen Piano Studio


Dr. Chen is an accomplished classical pianist, winning numerous piano competitions at the state, national, and international levels, and performing at prestigious stages such as the U.S. Department of State. He started piano lesson at age of 5 with Prof Shiyan Wang at Sichuan Conservatory in China, and continued his piano performance study as a merit student with Prof. Christine Delbeau at the University of Delaware (while obtaining his PhD in Physics). He also studied in private and/or masterclasses with prominent pianists/educators such as Gilbert Kalish, Orli Shaham, Nelita True, and Joseph Banowetz. Dr. Chen has been giving piano lessons over two decades, to a highly diverse collection of students. A true believer and practicer that brings together art, science and technology, Dr. Chen guides and cultivates students in the journey of piano study, from building a sound technical foundation, understanding the fascinating mechanics and acoustics of the instrument, experiencing the illusions and "magic" of piano playing, to explore and create art in piano performance. Besides his passion and devotion in Piano performance and education, Dr. Chen enjoys a successful career in science and technology. After earning his PhD in Physics, he quickly became one of the youngest lead investigator, staff scientist and group leader at one of the nation's premier research institutes Argonne National Laboratory, where he successfully created and led numerous scientific programs for the Department of Energy and Department of Defense. In 2017, Dr. Chen relocated his family to the San Francisco Bay Area working at a major semiconductor company, leading advanced product and program development. Teaching will be conducted on a Steinway Model B piano in Dr. Chen's home studio. Professional audio and video equipments are also used in creating an inspiring and holistic learning experience. During the COVID19 pandemic, remote lessons are offered.
