Sonya K. Lee
Sonya Kumiko Lee is a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with pianists Emanuel Ax and Oxana Yablonskaya. Sonya has maintained a studio of exceptional students in NYC and Southern California for over 20 years. PHILOSOPHY: Sonya’s primary goal with each student is to give them the tools to be able to play the music they enjoy, and to inspire students to expand their appreciation for music and all fine arts. While Sonya’s musical training was rigorous and intense, she believes everyone can enjoy music lessons at all levels and ages with a nurturing and fun approach. Everyone learns differently, so each student’s curriculum is tailored to grow their strengths and encourage them through the challenges. LESSONS: - All prospective students must schedule a trial lesson to be considered for acceptance. - Adults and children are both welcome, though beginner level children are accepted only on rare and exceptional circumstances. - Lessons are once a week, however, occasionally Sonya travels for performances and will need to reschedule, so please be flexible with scheduling. - Students who are preparing for conservatory auditions, competitions, and performances who would like a special coaching may contact Sonya for availability. - Out-of-town students may request lessons over Skype or FaceTime.
