Ms. Liliana Hsueh-Gutiérrez
Liliana Hsueh-Gutierrez is a truly international artist and teacher. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, she began music lessons at the age five. Her talent soon generated interest in Piano and Clarinet, and at age of thirteen she became one of the youngest musicians to be granted a Vatican City Scholarship to the “Benedetto Marcello” Conservatory of Music in Venice, Italy where after eight years of study she graduated Cum Laude with an unprecedented double major in Piano and Clarinet. From Italy she continued her studies in Toronto and New York, with Karl Ulrich Schnabel, Kendal Tayler, Guido Agosti, Adele Marcus and Sasha Gorodnitski. During her study in Canada, Ms Hsueh-Gutierrez won second place in the Trans-Canada Kiwanis Music Festival Competition for Young Pianists. Since then she has performed in concert with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra of Toronto, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and Kao-Shon Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed on RAI (Italian Radio Television) on Piano and Woodwind Quintet. Solo recital tours both Piano and Clarinet have taken her through Italy, Canada and Taiwan. Besides many concert performances experiences, Ms Hsueh-Gutierrez has more than thirty years of teaching experiences ranging from college level to the special talented children’s programs; from private teaching in Piano and Clarinet to the group lessons of Chamber Music, Ensemble and Choirs. She is also former Chairperson of Keyboard and Woodwind Department of Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Taiwan. Among her students from Italy, Canada, Taiwan and United States many now perform and teach all over the world, and have won contests in different regions and nations during their studies with her. During her music career in Taiwan she earn Certified Associate-Professor from Department of Education of Taiwan; and during her years of career in the States she is also a Nationally Permanent Professional Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) and an active members of the Music Teacher’s National Association (MTNA), California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) and American College of Musicians. Ms Hsueh-Gutierrez is also a dedicated collaborating pianist and has collaborated with many distinguished artists such as Hectare Glaze, Paul Elision, Edward Shmider, Timothy Landauer, Herman Pelayo, Elena Rabnier, Margaret Shepherd, and many special engagements with world-renowned French Double Bass artist Francois Rabbath. Ms Hsueh-Gutierrez currently resides in Hacienda Heights, California where she works as an Associate Director of Music/Liturgy Ministry of St. Joseph Center, professional independent music teacher, professional collaborative pianist, local and state Coordinator for CAPMT-MTNA and MTAC. She is also a very dedicated certified director of music and liturgy in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, served Archdiocesan Liturgy Commission and the Artistic Director of Chinese Catholic Chorale. She has invited often as adjudicator for many music competitions and activities. Besides her Cum Lauds artistic diplomas in Piano Performance and Clarinet Performance from Italy, Music Teacher Diploma from Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Canada, after migrant to the United States, she earned also Master Degree in Clarinet Performance from University of Southern California (U.S.C.) with Mitchell Lurie; and the doctoral candidate in Piano Accompanying and Choral Conducting at U.S.C. with Gwendoline Godowsky, Martin Katz, Graham Johnson, Alan Smith and David Wilson.
