About

Pianist Josefina Urraca has performed frequently at venues in the US and Europe and recently recorded her debut album with flutist Guillermo Laporta. Josefina is a founding member and Managing Director of CreArtBox, an ensemble whose programs present wide-ranging multidisciplinary connections between music and other art forms. CreArtBox has been awarded the INJUVE Chamber Music Competition, Montehermoso Contemporary Creation Award, Savvy Musicians in Action Chamber Music Competition and the Queens Council for the Arts and have performed in different venues like the Queens Theatre, Le Poisson Rouge, DiMenna Center, Spectrum, Flamboyan Theater, New York Society for Ethical Culture, The Tank Theater, National Opera America Center, Steinway Hall, Cervantes Institute, with other performances in Artisphere Theater and Tapp Center. Josefina is the director alongside Guillermo Laporta, of the CreArt Music Series at the New York Society for Ethical Culture. Josefina’s teachers and mentors include Dimitri Bashkirov, Marc Silverman, Maria Joao Pires, Ferenc Rados, Rita Wagner, Matti Raekallio, Julian Martin, Joaquín Achúcarro, Guigla Katsarava, Josep Maria Colom, Patrín García-Barredo, Claudio Martínez-Mehner and Kennedy Moretti. Josefina was born in Spain and was first introduced to music by her mother. Growing up surrounded by her mother's students awaked in her a true love for teaching. She has received numerous fellowships and prizes, including Caja Madrid Foundation Scholarship, Manhattan School of Music Scholarship, among others and holds a Master Degree from Manhattan School of Music.
